Discoveries on My Last Trip to Japan: A Fountain Pen Adventure
My journey through Japan was more than a chance to explore the country's rich culture, stunning landscapes, and exquisite cuisine. It became an unforgettable pilgrimage for a fountain pen enthusiast like me, as I encountered remarkable writing tools and stories in every corner of this beautiful nation. Here are some treasures I brought back from my trip:
The Gems of Tokyo International Pen Show
Visiting the Tokyo International Pen Show was like stepping into a paradise for pen lovers. Among the unique finds, I picked up several special edition pens, each embodying the craftsmanship and elegance that Japanese fountain pens are known for. These pens not only serve as writing instruments but as memories of the vibrant energy and creativity of the event.

These are all mentioned in detail on my Tokyo International Pen Show Article and Video here:
A Pen Rest Made of Special Wood
Another gem form the T.I.P.S. or more accurately, from the Karaoke Night out with the other volunteers. I won it from a Rock Paper Scissors match!. Its smooth finish and intricate grain patterns make it as much a work of art as a practical accessory. It adds a touch of natural beauty to my writing desk, perfectly complementing my pens.

The Pilot Kakuno: My Trusty Companion
During my three-month adventure across Japan, the Pilot Kakuno was my loyal companion. This pen, though simple and affordable, proved to be a true workhorse. Its smooth nib and cheerful design made every journaling session a delight. The Kakuno now holds a special place in my heart as a symbol of resilience and creativity during my travels.

Matching Pilot Kakunos for Me and My Penpal
One of my favourite purchases was a pair of matching Pilot Kakunos—one for me and one for my penpal. The thought of us using the same pen to exchange letters fills me with joy. It’s a small yet meaningful connection that bridges the miles between us.

A Pilot Lightive in Green from Penland Cafe
In Nagoya, I stumbled upon the Penland Cafe, a cosy haven for pen enthusiasts. Among their carefully curated collection, the Pilot Lightive in a stunning green finish caught my eye. This pen is as vibrant as the bustling city where I found it, and it writes as beautifully as it looks.

Iro-Utsushi Dip Pen for Ink Swatching
No pen collection is complete without a tool for swatching inks, and the Iro-Utsushi dip pen was a perfect find. Its delicate design makes sampling inks an enjoyable ritual, letting me fully appreciate the hues and textures of every bottle I own.

Sailor Horoco: A Nib for Every Ink
To expand my ink catalogue, I acquired the Sailor Horoco, a unique pen with interchangeable nibs. This versatile tool makes ink swatching a breeze, turning my ink collection into a vivid and well-organised library of colours.

A Shoutout to the Platinum Ballpoint Pen
While not a fountain pen, the Platinum ballpoint pen deserves an honourable mention. Its sleek design and smooth writing experience make it a reliable companion for quick notes and casual writing sessions.

Japan is a fountain pen lover’s dream. From bustling markets to serene artisan shops, every discovery felt like a celebration of the art of writing. These pens and accessories not only enhance my collection but also tell the story of an incredible journey. I can’t wait to put them to good use, reliving the magic of Japan with every word I write.
